February 22, 2013 was my last day of radiation. It was a happy day. While going through cancer treatment there are many days that suck, diagnosis day, surgery day, chemotherapy days, hair falling out day, days you can’t taste food. Many days you don’t want to get out of bed. February 22 was a day I could start my life again and look beyond cancer. I still had Herceptin treatments but this was the end of all the major treatments.
I have been cancer free for one year! There were many times I thought this day would never get here. If you are in the middle of a difficult time, things will get better. Maybe not as soon as we would like at times, but they do get better.
If I have learned anything during my 18 months in Seattle it is small gestures go a long way to the person receiving it. I truly appreciated the people who helped me during my treatments. Every email, text, card, phone call, Facebook message meant more to me than you could possible imagine. In honor of my Survivor Day if you know someone who needs a lift, send them a”I’m thinking of you”. You may make someone’s day, I know many of you did for me.
